Server Information

All of our servers actively support SSL on the given ports; 6697, 7000. We currently utilize a round-robin system when you are connecting to ensure that our servers are load-balanced, and in order for you to connect to a server that has the lowest ping in proximity of your connecting location.

Servers

You cannot directly connect to the servers listed below, however they are shown for you to know what server names we currently have, along with other information that may help you understand connection details for.

Linking

Please carefully read through all of the information presented on this section to understand the requirements.

Basic server requirements

  • x86 or x86-64 hardware
  • Professional hosting environment and connectivity (i.e. a datacenter).
  • Several megabits of throughput available in both directions (10mbit or more is preferred).
  • Ability to accept IPv4 TCP connections on port 6667.
  • A Unix style operating system (Unix, Linux, BSD etc.)
  • Explicit right or permission to run a large IRC server
  • root (administrative) access to operating system

Administrator requirements

  • You should be at least 18 years of age
  • You should be able to communicate well in English. Knowing other languages is a plus.
  • You should be able to manage and secure your chosen operating system.
  • You should have a lot of past experience with IRC, running IRC servers, and being an IRC operator
  • You should be a regular ChatNPlay user, and genuinely interested in improving the network.
  • You should be able to spend a reasonable amount of your time on improving the network

Detailed requirements

  • Ability to compile, configure, and run ChatNPlay's version of ProvisionIRCd
  • Recent version of OpenSSL libraries + headers
  • Ability to modify system headers to change the value of FD_SETSIZE, and configure file descriptor resource limits (on applicable operating systems)
  • Reasonable tolerance for denial of service attacks. Our servers are at significant risk of receiving denial of service attacks. Although we do not require professional DoS filtering, we would ask that you acknowledge the possibility that an attack could occur, and familiarize yourself with your providers' policies regarding such incidents.

The application process

  • Link applications are approved and denied based on a combined vote by the current ChatNPlay server and network administrators. However, incomplete or inaccurate applications can be dismissed at the discretion of a network administrator.
  • Upon being a approved, an application enters the 'test link' stage. During the test link stage, the applicant's server will be linked to the SwiftIRC network; however the applicant will be limited to local operator status for 14 days. After 14 days, the applicant will be permitted to have global operator status. After 30 days in the test link stage, a second vote will take place (again, by server and network administrators) to determine if an application should be either: approved as a full link, denied, given an extended test link.
  • Test links can be terminated at any time by network administrator vote
  • Upon being granted a full link status, the applicant will be promoted to the rank of server administrator and gain the privileges and responsibilities of that rank.

Note that additional server operators are not accepted as part of a link application - additional staff must be nominated by a server or network administrator and then approved by a server and network administrator vote.

We are currently not accepting any linking applications at this time
